Comments:

Syracuse faced another team of giants in #8 ranked Maryland. This time, Roy's Runts weren't able to run the opposing team off the court, as the Terrapins outside shooting and height advantage gave them too much to overcome.

Syracuse Maryland 1973 NCAAMaryland led 35-31 at the half. In the second half, the Terrapin fast break started to work, and they were able to pull away. Syracuse was forced to have four players crash the boards for rebounds, which facilitated the Maryland fast break.

Maryland's Len Elmore made all the difference in the game. Elmore did not start because of a broken foot he suffered a few weeks earlier, but he did play 31 minutes. His shot blocking ability and rebounding intimidated the Orangemen. Syracuse coach Roy Danforth said after the game "Seven runts can't beat 14 giants".[1]
