Scott Stapleton was an outstanding shooting guard for Syracuse for three seasons. He was considered by many to be the best pure shooter on the team, though he never could crack the starting lineup.
Stapleton excelled on the freshman team, averaging 14.3 points per game, as the frosh team went 17-1.
Stapleton was a valuable reserve on the varsity for three seasons. He was an outstanding shooter and solid free throw shooter. However with talented guards like Jimmy Lee, Dennis DuVal and Greg Kohls in front of him, he was unable to get into the starting line up.
Stapleton would continue his education after graduation, earning a medical degree. Dr. Stapleton would be an ophthalmologist in his hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina for several years.
