Tom Stundis was a reserve center on the Syracuse basketball team for three seasons. He was a very physical player on the court which earned him the nickname "the Braintree Butcher".
Stundis was one of the top reserves on the team all three years on the varsity. He was a valuable backup to classmate Bob Dooms at the center position.
Stundis was ejected from a game his senior year when he punched Manhattan's George Bucci during the game. Bucci was a physical player himself, and he ran what appeared to be an illegal pick against Stundis. Bucci grabbed Stundis' leg, and Stundis punched Bucci, appearing to knock him unconscious. The Syracuse student section was throwing debris on the court, and the Manhattan coach threatened to pull his team off the court, but Roy Danforth was able to calm the students down.[1]
