Sanford Salz played guard for Syracuse for three seasons. He was an excellent free throw shooter with a decent perimeter shot.

Sandy Salz Syracuse OrangemenSalz played for the freshman team in 1957-1958. He made the varsity his sophomore year but did not see much playing time with upper classmen Eddie Goldberg, Bruce Schmelzer and Dick Conover ahead of him.

Salz was the sixth man his junior season, helping to provide the outside shooting needed on a team lacking in height. He would lead the team in free throw shooting at 83% that season. Salz was a starting guard his senior season, and would have a career high 18 points against Cornell on December 10th. Unfortunately the Orangemen were being outplayed on the court, starting the season 1-5 with Salz in the starting lineup. Coach Marc Guley would shake things up and change the starting lineup around but it made little difference as the Orangemen struggled to a 4-19 season.

Salz would serve as a Battery Commander Captain for the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1965 to 1970 [1].

Salz was an executive with Linden Bulk Transportation for several years, and eventually the chairman and co-owner.[1]
