Comments:

The Syracuse Orangemen and the Miami Hurricanes met in the championship game of the Hurricane Classic in Miami, Florida. The Orangemen had beaten Princeton with its star Bill Bradley in the first round, while Miami beat Army. The game would feature a match up of two future NBA Hall of Famers with Dave Bing for the Orangemen and Rick Barry for the Hurricanes.

The Orangemen's leading scoring Chuck Richards would miss the game due to illness. Rex Trobridge would start at center but injuries limited his playing time, so seldom used backup center Bob Murray would need to play a lot. Miami would lead at the half 46-42. The Orangemen would rally in the second half and the two teams would end regulation tied at 80-80, as the two future Hall of Famers did not disappoint. Bing had 29 points while Barry had 25.[1][2]

The Orangemen would win the game in overtime when Bob Murray hit a jumper from the wing with 3 seconds to go put the team up 86-85. Murray would end up with a strong night of 16 points from the bench.
