Richie Duffy was a playmaking guard for Syracuse for three seasons. Duffy was a small guard at 5'10" but was a good ball handler with a lot of quickness.
Duffy started his sophomore season as the starting point guard, but was replaced four games into the season by senior Dick Finley. Duffy would resume the starting point guard position his junior and senior seasons. Coach Fred Lewis wanted Syracuse to play an up tempo style and Duffy was put to the task of keeping the quick pace.
Duffy's older brother Bob Duffy was the head coach of the Colgate Red Raiders. Rich played Colgate twice while Bob was the coach, with Syracuse winning both times.
Duffy would have a successful career in advertising, representing companies such as Rolex and MasterCard [1]. He passed away in 2023.
