Braedon Bayer was a walk-on guard for Syracuse basketball.
Bayer transferred to Syracuse as a walk-on after two seasons at Division III Grinnell College. He led the Pioneers in assists his freshman year, despite coming off the bench for most the season. He scored a career high 22 points in a win against Blackburn and also in a loss to Cornell College.

Bayer would redshirt the 2016-2017 season due to NCAA transfer rules. He would be awarded a scholarship from Syracuse for the 2017-2018 season.
Geno Thorpe would leave the team in December, and Howard Washington would tear his ACL. This would leave Syracuse with no reserve guards, and Bayer would need to fill that role for the remainder of the season. He would barely be called upon as Frank Howard and Tyus Battle played virtually every minute of every game. Going into the NCAA tournament he had played 11 minutes in the whole season. Syracuse played highly rated Michigan State in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament. Howard would foul out of the game with just over six minutes to play and the Orange down by three points. This required Bayer to play the last six minutes of the game. He played stellar defense, including a crucial block and a steal. As time was winding down he caused a jump ball tie up, which gave the ball back to Syracuse. The Orange would come from behind and upset Michigan State 55-53.
Bayer would transfer to Siena after his senior year using the graduate transfer rules. As a result he was able to play immediately.

He would be a seldom used reserve his one year at Siena scoring three points in fifty three minutes of playing time. He would get the honor of starting the last game of the season against Marist. He would play only four minutes in that game.
