Thorpe would transfer as a graduate student to Syracuse for the 2017-2018 season. He would miss the exhibition games due to an ankle injury, and that would slow down his development for the team. He scored 13 points in 21 minutes against Texas Southern. Thorpe would leave the team for personal reasons after the sixth game.
