Comments:
Syracuse was the leading scoring team in the nation, while Duke was the #2 ranked team in the nation. The two teams met in the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament. The game was played in Raleigh, which was essentially a home game for the favored Blue Devils.
The game was relatively close, though Duke held the upper hand throughout most of it, pulling away at the end.
Dave Bing would have the worst game of his senior season, managing only 10 points on four of fourteen shooting. Duke would double team Bing most of the game. Meanwhile Duke players Bob Verga and Jack Marin would have excellent games, scoring 21 and 22 points respectively, on some hot shooting. Verga would make several long perimeter shots.
Duke would hit 54% of its field goals in the first half (15 of 28), while the Orangemen made only 35% (17 of 37)
