Comments:
Pittsburg (now spelled Pittsburgh) led 28-27 with sixteen seconds to play when Coach Flint of the Panthers sent Stram into the game for Healey. Stram ran onto the court to notify the official Steinberg that he was to substitute. Steinberg granted Pittsburg a timeout in order to make the substitution. However Coach Ed Dollard of Syracuse pointed out the Panthers had already used their four time outs and had none left to call. Steinberg called a technical on Pittsburg, allowing Lew Castle to take a technical free throw. Castle took the shot but missed; however a Panther player had stepped into the lane early, giving Castle a second shot.
Syracuse would score 4 field goals in overtime, while a disheartened Pitt team would only make a free throw.
