William 'Boo' Farber was a reserve on the Syracuse basketball team for two seasons. He excelled at football and baseball, lettering in football three seasons, and baseball two.

Farber coached the Syracuse freshman basketball, football and baseball programs following graduation until 1920. In 1920 he coached the freshman football team to the intercollegiate championship.

Farber was a successful insurance underwriter in Pennsylvania, and then in the Syracuse area. Farber became good friends with Gov. Huey Long of Louisiana, and Long appointed him the first head of the Louisiana State Casualty and Surety Rating Commission in the early 1940's. Faber held that position until his death.

He was a devout and influential Syracuse athletics supporter, and was vice president of the Syracuse Alumni Association at the time of his death in 1957.
