William Grimes was a reserve guard on the Syracuse basketball team for four seasons, including the undefeated 1914 squad. He was on the 1915 team but did not play in any games.
Grimes graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse in 1915 majoring in geology and chemistry. He joined the US 13th Cavalry in World War I under General Black Jack Pershing.
He became a member of the Century Club at Syracuse, and the Syracuse Bond Club. Grimes worked professionally as an investment banker.
He passed away in 1975.
