Reaves 'Ribs' Baysinger played one year of varsity basketball for Syracuse playing at guard, and occasionally at center. He was an outstanding athlete, lettering in football three years as a guard and end in football (1921-22-23) and in three years in baseball as an outfielder (1922-23-24).. He earned All Eastern Honors in football his senior season and made honorable mention All-American. Baysinger was a high school teammate of Giff Zimmerman. Baysinger was known for his solid defense on the court.
Baysinger would play one season in the NFL for the Rochester Jeffersonians in 1924 as a offensive end.

He would work in the Syracuse athletic department for 20 years. He was director of freshman athletics from 1927 to 1946. He coached the freshman basketball team to a perfect 23-0 record in 1927-28. In 1947 he was named the head coach of the Syracuse football team. He would coach the team for two seasons, leading them to a disappointing 4-14 record.
Ribs Baysinger's son Reaves Baysinger Jr played football and basketball at Syracuse in 1945. Baysinger passed away in 1994.
