Giff Zimmerman played forward on the Syracuse basketball team for two seasons. He was a star on the football field , a three year letterman, playing wingback, tailback and kicker in the 1921, 1922, and 1923 seasons. He was a high school teammate of fellow football / basketball player Ribs Baysinger. Zimmerman was the first Syracuse football player ever to wear #44.
Zimmerman joined the basketball team midway through his sophomore season. He made some immediate impact with his hustle, athletic talent, and ability to score, and would start six games. He would be on the team for the beginning of his junior season, playing in one game. He would resign from the team to focus on his studies.
He was also on the track team and president of the Syracuse student body.
Zimmerman played in the NFL for two seasons, with the Akron Zephyrs and the Canton Bulldogs. He scored two touchdowns with the Bulldogs in 1926.
