Maliq Brown was a forward for Syracuse basketball for two seasons. Brown was a terrific rebounder who brought a lot hustle to the court and demonstrated a high basketball IQ.

Maliq Brown SyracuseBrown was part of the rotation of bench players for the Orange his freshman year. He started carving out a niche for himself with solid hustle and defense, and working hard on the rebounds. Brown rarely strayed far from the basket, and was adept at scoring close to the hoop. Brown would replace Benny Williams late in the season in the starting lineup. Brown would have a season high twelve rebounds as a reserve against Virginia Tech. He would come off the bench and score a season high 18 against Georgia Tech. Though Brown spent most of the season as a reserve, he finished second in rebounding.

Brown began his sophomore season as the first reserve off the bench backing up the center and power forward positions, though he was getting a lot of playing time. He would move into the starting lineup after center Naheem McLeod had season ending ankle surgery. Brown was undersized at the center, but did an excellent job defensively preventing opposing big men from getting access to the ball. Brown would end up leading the ACC in steals and was named to the conference's All Defensive Team. Brown was an extremely efficient scorer making nearly 70% of his shot. He was doing a little bit of everything on the court, with nifty passes from the post positions, offensive and defensive rebounding, frequent steals, and the occasional three point shot. In February he accomplished the rare quintuple five with 11 pts, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, and 6 blocks in a win over Louisville. As the season progressed Brown had to play significant minutes as injuries and suspensions left the team with no reserve big men.

Brown would transfer to Duke after his sophomore season.
