Johnny Simonaitis was a smooth shooting guard for three seasons at Syracuse. He was an outstanding all around athlete who lettered three times in basketball, three times in baseball, and once is soccer. He was part of the famed 'S-Men' team at Syracuse that included himself, Wilmeth Sidat-Singh, John Schroeder, Bobby Stewart, and Ed Sonderman.
Simonaitis had significant playing time his sophomore year, starting half of the games. He would lead the team in scoring against rival Colgate in a big win that February. He would be second in the team in scoring his junior season. He would score a career high 19 points in a win over Cornell, and again in a season ending loss to Colgate.
Simonaitis would be the captain of the team his senior year, when the 'S-Men' originated. The increase in talent on the team spread the scoring around, and as a result Simonaitis would score less. He would be ill for part of the season and miss three games.
Following graduation, Simonaitis would briefly play minor league baseball for the Rome Colonels.
