Red Stanton was a lanky center for the Syracuse basketball team for three seasons. Stanton was known as a strong rebounder and an aggressive player. He was also a wide receiver on the Syracuse freshman football team.

Red Stanton Syracuse OrangemenStanton began his sophomore season as a prominent reserve center. By the end of the season, he had impressed coach Lew Andreas enough that he inserted him into the starting lineup and moved starting center Gene Berger to guard.

Stanton would be a starter for most of his junior season, and did an excellent job of scoring. He would score a career high 17 points in an overtime loss to Penn State.

Stanton would leave the team mid-season his senior year to fulfill military obligations.
