Charlie Beck played guard for Syracuse for two seasons. He was a good all around athlete and lettered in cross country in 1941.

Charlie Beck Syracuse Orangemen BasketballBeck was a reserve guard his sophomore and junior seasons at Syracuse. He would play seven games his sophomore season. His younger brother John would play at Syracuse after the war.

Beck studied pre-dentistry at Syracuse and was a gifted musician. He would join the military in 1943 and leave Syracuse. The military would send him to dentistry school at the University of Maryland; while he was there he played professional basketball for the Baltimore Bullets. He would serve in the Korean War, stationed in Alaska.

Beck would have a long and successful pediatric dentistry career. He was an avid tennis player, and in 1977, at the age of 55 became a professional tennis official, traveling the world. He would be the first American official to work at all four Grand Slam events. Upon his retirement from officiating, he wrote the book "A View From the Tall Chair". [1]

Beck passed away in 2012 at the age of 89.
