Comments:

Syracuse faced #7 North Carolina at the Dome, a month since the Tar Heels had crushed the Orange 103-67. The Orange had a roster depleted of big men with only a healthy Maliq Brown and Mounir Hima able to play center, and only eight available scholarship players.

The Orange scrapped their man-to-man defense for the game, and played strictly zone defense throughout. They were patient on offense and took good shots, and held a 23-13 lead about halfway through the first half. North Carolina would work its way back into the game and the two teams went into half time tied 42-42.

Syracuse would start out the second half strong behind solid play from Judah Mintz and JJ Starling. The Orange would take a 52-43 lead just over four minutes into the second half. The Tar Heels would slowly work into the lead, and would over take the Orange 65-64 at the 7:18 mark on a layup by RJ Davis. That lead would be short lived as Starling would bank a desperation three point shot at 6:46 to give the lead back to the Orange.

The Tar Heels would make their shots down the stretch, and put the Orange at the line to force free throws. The Orange would miss a few, but outstanding defensive efforts by the Orange, particularly Quadir Copeland, would force some turnovers and steals in the waning minutes as the Orange held on to win 86-79. Syracuse's back court of Mintz and Starling led the way with a combined 48 points, 29 in the second half. It was the first top 10 victory in Coach Adrian Autry's career, and the first for the Orange since a win over Duke in 2019. The Orange would shoot 63% from the floor for the game, and 47% from three.
