Comments:

Syracuse was the last team selected to the NCAA tournament, and they faced Arizona State in the First Four. The game was a defensive battle, with both teams struggling to score. Oshae Brissett took a nasty fall in the first half. He sat for a couple of minutes and was able to return to play, and would have a terrific game with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Syracuse would have a small lead 30-28 at the half.

Arizona State would score the first eight points of the second half to take a 36-30 lead. The Orange would battle back and make it a one point game. The Sun Devils would make a run with just over 7 minutes left in the game, and got it to a 49-42 lead. Syracuse would clamp down defensively and outscore Arizona State 18-7 to finish the game. Tyus Battle hit a three point shot with 1:52 to go that gave the Orange a 55-52 lead. The Sun Devils had a chance to take the lead with 5 seconds to go, but Shannon Evans missed the three point attempt. Frank Howard would then ice the game making two free throws to make the final score 60-56.
