Comments:

Syracuse played its first Final Four game against the #2 ranked and highly favored Kentucky Wildcats. Kentucky would jump out to an early lead, and would dominate most of the game. Both teams got into foul trouble, but whereas Kentucky had a deep bench, Syracuse did not.

Rudy Hackett rebound against Kentucky in Final FourKentucky looked like they would be running away with the game, until the Orangemen battle back in the second half. Syracuse would go on an 18-6 run to get the score back to 69-60 Kentucky with about eight minutes to go. Unfortunately, Rudy Hackett would foul out at that point, and the Orangemen would have no answer for Kentucky's big men. The Wildcats would outscore Syracuse 26-10 in the last eight minutes to advance to the national championship game.

All five Syracuse starters had four or more fouls, with Hackett, Jimmy Williams and Earnie Seibert all fouling out. Four of Kentucky's starters also had four or more fouls. Freshman Jack Givens would be the star for Kentucky, scoring 24 points off the bench. Syracuse's Jimmy Lee led the Orange with 23 points on a good day of sharp shooting.
