Mike Lee was one of the best rebounding forwards, despite his small stature, and a terrific free throw shooter. He was considered a clutch player and the leader of the team. His younger brother Jimmy followed him to Syracuse two years later, and they played together for one season.
Lee led the freshman team to a 16-2 record.
He was a three year starter on the varsity, never missing a start. Part of Roys Runt's, so called because of the lack of height for the entire team (the front line of Lee, Mark Wadach and Bob Dooms were all 6'5" or shorter), Lee was a tenacious rebounder and a prolific scorer, second on the team in scoring his junior and senior years. During his junior season he made a school record 34 consecutive free throws. Against George Washington University his junior season, Lee scored a career high 34 points.
Lee was a captain of the team his senior season, and led the Orangemen to a 24-5 records and an NIT tournament bid.
Lee was an 11th round pick by the Buffalo Braves in 1973. He was the head coach at LeMoyne College from 1979 to 1982. He was the athletic director at Holy Cross School (Dewitt, NY) from 1996 to 2001.
Mike Lee was inducted into the Syracuse Hall of Fame in 2003, making him and his brother Jimmy the first duo inducted.
