Tom McTiernan was a center/forward on the Syracuse basketball team for the 1942-1943 season.
McTiernan was a big scorer on the freshman team. He would be the varsity's fifth leading scorer his sophomore year, when he alternated between forward and center. McTiernan would sink two free throws as time expired in the Georgetown game, to tie the game 40-40. The Orangemen would end up losing in overtime.
He would leave the team at the end of the season to serve in the Army in World War II.
He would play in the NewYork State Basketball League for two seasons after the war from 1946 to 1948, playing for the Mohawk Redskins and Utica Olympians.
McTiernan passed away in January 2009.
