Michael Edwards was a quick small guard for Syracuse basketball for four seasons. Edwards was able to play both the point guard and shooting guard positions, though he did not excel at either one position.

Michael Edwards Syracuse Orangemen BasketballEdwards started his freshman season as a reserve guard behind senior Stephen Thompson and sophomore Dave Johnson. Edwards started getting significant playing time as Thompson struggled to play the point guard position, and after fifteen games, Edwards would replace Thompson at the point, with Thompson moving over to the shooting guard position. Syracuse's offense would flow better with a true point guard running the offense, and Thompson back at his natural position. Edwards would play solidly the remainder of the season, and would earn a berth on the Big East All Rookie Team.

Adrian Autry would arrive in Edwards sophomore season, assuming the point guard role. Edwards would move to the shooting guard position with the graduation of Thompson. Edwards played a solid shooting guard that season, hitting 33% of this three point shots. He was losing playing time however, as Dave Johnson would occasionally play the shooting guard to getting more talent and size on the court.

Edwards would lose his starting position his junior season to Mike Hopkins who had developed into a fine shooting guard. By his senior season, Edwards was deep on the bench, and would only play in 20 games and 190 minutes for the season. He would be suspended for some games after his arrest in January for breaking into a car, though charges would eventually be dropped.
