Jim Ackerson played basketball for Syracuse for two seasons. He played both center and forward. He also was a first baseman on the Syracuse baseball team, lettering in 1941.
Jim Ackerson was a reserve player his junior season, playing in roughly half the games. Ackerson's senior year was in the midst of World War II, and the team was slowly being depleted as players were going into the Army. Ackerson would become a starter towards the end of the season. After the season end, he too would enter into the U.S. Army.
