Harley Crane was one of the members of the first varsity basketball team at Syracuse, and played for three seasons. Crane was an outstanding athlete, also playing tackle on the Syracuse football team.
In 1895 Crane was the star of the game when Syracuse beat rival Colgate for the first time in football.
He was the starting center the second season for Syracuse basketball, and one of the leading scorers on the team.
Crane would be an attorney in the Syracuse area for several decades. From 1917-1918 he served as a legislator in the New York State Assembly. He would pass away in 1963.
