Fred Machemer was on the Syracuse basketball team for three seasons. He was an undersized forward who eventually moved to guard.
Machemer was a reserve forward his sophomore season. He would start the first six games of his junior season at guard, before losing his starting position to Billy Connors. Machemer would be named the captain of the team his senior season, and would be second in scoring. It was unfortunately the worst team season in Syracuse history going 2-22.
His father, Fred Machemer Sr. was a member of the Syracuse football team from 1929-1931, and was a heavyweight on the Syracuse boxing team. Fred Machemer Sr. was named a Syracuse Letterwinner of Distinction in 1983.
