Comments:
Syracuse opened the season playing #20 San Diego State on the deck of the U.S.S. Midway, in the 2nd Annual Carrier Classic. The day was a sunny windy day on the bay, with a steady wind blowing across the court and the sun getting in the eyes of the players. The weather would make it difficult for either team to make perimeter shots, and with Syracuse's strong zone defense, it was extremely difficult for the Aztecs to make any perimeter shots. They would go 1 for 18 for the game, and would also struggle at the free throw line going 14 of 33. Syracuse was very agressive defensively blocking 10 shots.
Syracuse abandoned its perimeter game early, and focused on getting the ball inside where it had a size advantage. The Orange would jump out to a 17-4 lead to start the game, and the lead would never drop below double digits.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday, November 9th, but the threat of rain forced the game moved to Sunday.
