Michael Lloyd was a strong point guard who could drive the lane, and shoot from the perimeter. He played guard at Syracuse for one season.

Michael Lloyd Syracuse Orangemen BasketballLloyd started college at highly touted San Jacinto Junior College in Texas. He came to Syracuse after two years, with a reputation of being a big scorer, averaging 34 points per game his sophomore year, and scoring 1871 points in two seasons.

His first game at Syracuse, he struggled in the first half, with only two points. But then he exploded with 25 points in the second half, putting to rest any concerns about his ability to play at the Division I level.

Lloyd replaced the talented Adrian Autry, and inherited a Syracuse team loaded with talent with Lawrence Moten and John Wallace leading the way. Lloyd was able to pick up the scoring in games where the big guns had problems, and he broke down defenses well. He tended to be over aggressive and turn the ball over at times, but also had a reputation for playing well in big games. Against Southern Illinois in the NCAA tournament, he had 14 assists.

After his junior season, the NCAA ruled that Lloyd had falsified his academic transcript from San Jacinto and was not qualified to be enrolled at Syracuse. As a result he not permitted to play his senior season. Lloyd opted to declare for the NBA draft, where he went undrafted.

He would play professional basketball in Israel in 1995. He would play in the USBL for four seasons for the Atlantic City Seagulls. He lead them to two USBL Championships. Lloyd was named the USBL rookie of the year in 1996, and named to the leagues first team in 1998 and 1999. He made the USBL's 20th anniversary all-star team.
