Mike Barlow played sparingly for three seasons of Syracuse basketball, though he would letter in 1968 and 1969. Illness kept him to only 3 games his senior year. Though he came to Syracuse on a basketball scholarship, he would have far greater success on the baseball diamond at Syracuse, and would move on to Major League Baseball. Barlow would letter in baseball three times from 1968 to 1970.
Barlow pitched for seven years with four different ball clubs: St. Louis Cardinals (1975), Houston Astros (1976), California Angels (1977-1979), and Toronto Blue Jays (1980-1981). He was primarily used as a middle reliever.

From 1987 to 1993, he teamed with Syracuse's 'The Voice of the Orange' Doug Logan for the official broadcast the Syracuse Basketball games. He became the Athletic Director of Bishop Grimes High School (Syracuse) in 2001.
