Verne Hastings played baseball for four years at Syracuse. He was a solid second baseman and earned four letters for the sport. He would be a reserve player on the Syracuse basketball team for his sophomore season.
Prior to coming to Syracuse, Hastings served as a marine in World War II as a sergeant in the Pacific theatre. He was discharged in 1946.
He would graduate from Syracuse in 1950.
Hastings would begin a banking career in 1951. He would eventually retire as Executive Vice President of Key Bank of Southeastern New York in 1988. [1] He would pass away in 2009 at the age of 84.
