Sid Mendelson was a forward on the Syracuse basketball team for three seasons.
Mendelson was an outstanding player on the Syracuse freshman team. Despite that, he did not make the initial cut for the varsity during his sophomore season. He would join the team mid-season, and actually would start four games that season.
Mendelson would not play much at the beginning of his junior season, but he came on strong down the stretch, starting the last six games of the season. He would lead the Orangemen in scoring in a road victory over rival Colgate, and then again in a victory over Oberlin (a career high 11 points in each game). Mendelson was firmly entrenched in the starting line up his senior season, and was an integral part of the 15-2 campaign.
In the fall of Mendelson senior year he played in the Syracuse University Tennis Tournament (on campus), and won the championship, with victories over several varsity players including the tennis team captain Fitzgerald. As a result of his success, Mendelson played for the tennis team his spring semester of his senior year. Mendelson had also played soccer his sophomore year and lacrosse his junior year.
