Bob Popp was a reserve guard on the Syracuse basketball team for one season. Popp was a good all-around athlete. He played soccer for three seasons, and was the team co-captain his senior year (fall of 1939), and lettered in baseball two seasons (spring 1939 and 1940).

Popp would play in only one varsity basketball game at Syracuse during his junior season. This was the game where Lew Andreas played a school record 21 players.

Popp graduated from Syracuse in 1940, and would teach and coach for 41 years. He was inducted into the New York State Hall of Fame for his outstanding achievements in coaching high school sports.

Popp served in the Army in World War II.

He passed away in March 2003. [1]
