Norm Leavitt was a forward for the Syracuse Orangemen basketball team for three seasons. Leavitt earned a starting berth on the Orangemen his sophomore season and started every game. He would lead the team in scoring in victories over Harvard and Army. He finished the season as the team's third leading scorer.
Syracuse had a talented group of sophomores join the team Leavitt's junior year, and as a result Leavitt would lose his starting position. Leavitt was still a valuable part of the squad, playing in virtually every game. He would lead the team in scoring with a career high 13 points in a victory over Penn State. Leavitt would see even greater reduced playing time his senior season, though he played in most games.
Leavitt would have a career in retail merchandising and furniture. He would reach the position of Vice President at L.S. Ayres. He would serve in World War II in the U.S. Army.
Leavitt passed away in 2001. [1]
