Fred Morris was a center for Syracuse basketball for one season. He was a big man with a lot of strength. He would start and play in one game and fail to score. Morris was also a member of the Syracuse track team, and competed in the shot put.
Morris would transfer to Ithaca College and earn a degree there. He would later coach his alma mater Waterford High School's varsity basketball team from the early 1930s until 1959. One of the players on his team was Ron Gillespie who would play for the Orangemen in the 1950s, and Gillespie would replace him as head coach of Waterford in 1960.
He played one year of professional basketball, 1927-1928 for Troy in the MBL.
Morris passed away in 1995.
