Skids Sanford was a starter for Syracuse for three season. He was a tall player with a solid build, and was known for his strong inside play and solid defensive play. He had been a teammate of Elky Maister at Trenton High School. Sanford was also a wide receiver on the varsity football team for three seasons, lettering his senior season.
Sanford was solid at center his sophomore and junior seasons starting every game. He would shift to guard his senior season, in favor of rising star Ed Sonderman. Sanford would handle the transition well, giving Syracuse a strong defensive backcourt between him and Lou Alkoff.
Sanford would graduate from Syracuse in 1935. He would be a vice principal and athletic instructor at Sherrill High School from 1937 to 1941. He would leave there to be a coach on the Hamilton College football team. In the 1950's he was the head football coach at Garden City High School down on Long Island.
