Lew Newton was a reserve on the Syracuse basketball team for two seasons, barely playing his senior season. He was a three year letterman on the football team playing offensive tackle.
Newton played professional football in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for the Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes.
He was an assistant football coach at Syracuse for two years 1947-1948. He later was a physical education instructor for 30+ years for various New York state schools systems, the last fifteen with Watertown. He coached football, basketball and hockey for the Watertown schools.
Newton passed away in 1990.
