Jim Bruett was a reserve center on the varsity basketball team for one year. He was an outstanding football player, lettering three times, and playing tackle and doing the place kicking. Bruett was the captain of the football team his senior year.
Bruett played for the freshman basketball team his first year in college. He hurt his ankle during the football season his sophomore year, chipping a bone in his ankle. As a result he missed playing basketball his sophomore year. He would be a reserve center on the basketball team his junior year.
Bruett's younger brother Bill Bruett was a guard on the basketball team and a star on the baseball team.
