Don MacNaughton was a center for Syracuse basketball for three seasons.
MacNaughton would start four games his sophomore year when center Ed Sonderman was injured. MacNaughton would start his junior year as the starting center. However, classmate Mark Haller was greatly improving his offensive game, and would replace him at mid season. MacNaughton would remain a reserve his entire senior season.
MacNaughton would serve in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific in World War II, and would rise to the rank of First Lieutenant. He would later earn his law degree from Syracuse in 1948.
MacNaugton was a high school history teacher before earning his law degree. He would work as a lawyer in Pulaski, NY from 1948 to 1954.
He joined Prudential Insurance as associate legal counsel in 1955. He eventually rose to the position of CEO of the Prudential Insurance Company of America in 1969. In 1979, he stepped down from Prudential and became CEO of Hospital Corporation (now HCA). He held that position for seven years until retiring in 2006. [1]
Donald MacNaughton was named a Syracuse Letterwinner of Distinction in 1968.
He passed away in 2002.
