Don King was a guard on the Syracuse basketball team for two seasons. King was more well known as a half back on the Syracuse football team, pairing up with both Ernie Davis and Jim Nance in the Orange backfield. King would letter three times in football.
King would join the Syracuse basketball team his sophomore season, along with football teammates Davis and John Mackey when the depleted Syracuse squad needed additional bodies. He earned a reputation as a solid defensive player. He would rejoin the team his junior season, and would earn a position as a starter by mid January bringing a defensive mindedness needed on the court.
King would be drafted by the Detroit Lions in the sixth round of the1963 NFL Draft, but would not play in the NFL.
