The Syracuse Orange and Kansas Jayhawks first met in 1968 in a game in Lawrence, Kansas. The three teams have met three times in the NCAA tournament, with Syracuse going 2-1 versus the Jayhawks in those game. The most notable meeting was the 2003 National Championship game, which the Orangemen won 81-78 behind Carmelo Anthony and Gerry McNamara, giving Syracuse its first NCAA Tournament Championship.
