Comments:
Syracuse beat Kansas to win its first NCAA National Championship. Gerry McNamara was 6-6 from three point range in the first half to help the Orangemen to a 53-42 halftime lead. Kansas dominated the boards with a 52-36 edge in rebounding. Fortunately Syracuse shot much better, especially from three point range. Despite having a lousy day at the free throw line, Kansas' Nick Collison had a big day with 19 points and 21 rebounds.
Carmelo Anthony had a solid game with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. Billy Edelin played a season high 27 minutes. The game ended fittingly when Hakim Warrick seemlingly sprange from no where to block a 3 point effort by Michael Lee. This was the same spot on the Superdome Court where 20 years earlier Keith Smart had made the basket over Howard Triche to beat Syracuse at the end.
