The Syracuse Orangemen and the Fordham Rams first played in 1928. The two teams played an annual series from 1928-1935, 1938-1943, 1948-1950 and 1953-1978.
Syracuse led the series 17-15 in 1970. Since then the Orange have won 11 of the last 12 games to take a 28-16 lead in the series.
Syracuse set a school record for most players in a game in 1939 when Coach Lew Andreas sent 21 Syracuse players into the game, including many non-roster players such as football players who happened to be in the stands.
In 1972, Syracuse would win an overtime game 90-89. Syracuse sharp shooter Greg Kohls would make 17 of 17 free throw attempts that day, and the Orangemen needed every one of them in the one point victory.
