The Syracuse Orangemen and Arkansas Razorbacks first met in the 1995 NCAA Tournament. The Orangemen played a tremendous game, and had a four point lead with under a minute to go. Lawrence Moten dove for a loose basketball that would have virtually sealed the game for the Orangemen. When the Arkansas players tried to get the ball from him, Moten called a time out. Unfortunately, the Orangemen had no timeouts left, and this resulted in a technical foul. This gave Arkansas two free throws and possession of the ball; the Razorbacks made both free throws, and made a basket to send the game into overtime. The overtime period was a close one, but eventually Arkansas would pull off the victory 96-94. Arkansas would eventually advance to the national championship game where they would lose.
The two teams last met in 2012 in Arkansas as part of the SEC/Big East Challenge. Syracuse won easily as James Southerland had a career high 35 points.
