Charlie McCarthy played guard for Syracuse basketball from 1922 to 1924. He was a reserve until the end of his senior year when he became a starter because of academic suspensions of three starters. He was an excellent lacrosse player earning 3rd Team All-American distinction that same year.
McCarthy would coach the Syracuse freshman team after his graduation through the early 1930's.
