Comments:

Syracuse opened its Big East season ranked #1 in the country against Seton Hall at home. The team played like the best team in the country easily beating the Pirates by 26 points. Syracuse would race to a 34-15 lead in the first half and never look back. Sophomore Dion Waiters led all scorers with 15 points off the bench.

The real star of the game was sophomore center Fab Melo who set Syracuse single game record with 10 blocked shots. Melo added 12 points and 7 rebounds to his solid night, as the Orange held the Pirate starting front line to only 13 points on 5 of 26 shooting. Seton Hall star Herb Pope entered the game as the nation's #4 leading scorer with 20.3 points per game, and was held to 4 points.

Syracuse did an excellent job of protecting the ball with 20 assists and only 8 turnovers, while forcing 23 turnovers from Seton Hall. The Orange had 17 steals along with 15 blocked shots as a team. Orange star Kris Joseph was held scoreless in the game, but the rest of the team carried the day.

This was Jim Boeheim's 870th career win at Syracuse and the Orange's 14th consecutive win to start the season.
