Comments:
Syracuse had a 37-34 point lead over St. John's at halftime behind Damone Brown's 15 points. Syracse lead by 11 points at 66-54 in the second half, but St. John's came back. The Red Storm's Willie Shaw mae a four point play with 39 seconds left to force the game into overtime.
St. John's jumped out to an early four point lead in overtime, but Syracuse would fight back. Allen Griffin would score all eight of Syracuse's point in the first overtime, including a free throw that forced a second overtime.
Griffin would make two free throws early in the second overtime giving the Orangemen the lead, and they would never trail at that point. Syracuse made 39 of its 48 free throws for the game, while the Red Storm struggled making only 23 of 45. Allen Griffin set a Syracuse record for free throw attempts and made frew throws with 22 and 18 respectively. He would score 17 of his 31 points in the two overtime periods.
