Benjamin Tichnor was a guard for Syracuse basketball for two seasons. He was the captain of the 1910-1911 squad.
Tichnor was a steady player on the court, with a deliberate, but slow shot. He started his last season out strong, but tailed off towards the end of the season.
In the the last game of the 1910-1911 season, Syracuse was involved in a very physical game with Colgate. As the game ended, Tichnor got into a fight with Schradiech, a guard for Colgate. The fight was significant enough that both coaches, the referee, and several players had to get involved to break it up. The repercussions were significant enough that on March 15, 1911, Colgate's advisory board made a recommendation to the university to sever all athletic relations with Syracuse permanently, despite the fact that Syracuse and Colgate were the strongest of rivals in football, basketball and track [1]. Calmer heads would eventually prevail, as the relationship remained intact.
