Bernie Gipson was a reserve forward on the Syracuse basketball team for two seasons. He was known for his hustle on the court.
He came to Syracuse University as a non-scholarship player, and earned a starting berth on the 1966-67 freshman team. Gipson would average 7.9 points a game and 6.0 rebounds a game in helping that freshman squad go undefeated.
Gipson would be a seldom used reserve his sophomore and junior seasons. He would choose not to play basketball his senior season.
Gipson would graduate from Syracuse in 1970, and later earn his medical decree. He would become a physician in Colorado. As a side note, Gipson's father, Dr. Bernard Gibson Sr, was a prominent surgeon in Colorado, and the first African American board certified surgeon in that state.
