Walt Darby was a guard on the Syracuse basketball team for two seasons. He was an outstanding athlete who would letter in football three times and basketball once (1909).
Darby was the starting guard his sophomore season, and was known for playing outstanding defense, with little focus on offense. His junior season he started three games early in the season before leaving the team.
Darby was the starting quarterback for the football team for three seasons, and was captain of the football team his senior season. He was also a member of the Syracuse student orchestra. He was recognized as being a fine scholar while at Syracuse.
He would briefly coach the freshman football team following graduation. Darby would earn his law degree at Syracuse and would practice law with his brother Samuel Darby in New York; his brother also played football and basketball at Syracuse.
